Practical Firearms Training, taught by Pat Goodale, offers realistic and challenging courses for shooters at all levels of experience and skill. The programs are structured to provide the skills, knowledge, and confidence required to safely own and effectively use firearms.

“Simply owning a gun imparts neither knowledge or skill regarding its use. Only study and focused training can provide real capability.”   –Pat Goodale

PFT's triangle logo is the Combat Triad, which symbolizes the three ideals of firearms skill: marksmanship, gun handling, and mindset/tactics. All courses combine elements of lecture and theory with practical exercises for an innovative and valuable learning experience.  Handgun and shotgun courses are defensively-oriented and provide instruction in state of the art marksmanship, gun handling, and tactics. Rifle courses address the use of the rifle based upon its particular design and intended purpose.

Regularly scheduled courses include:

Additional courses include Advanced Tactical Rifle, Tactical Skills, 3 Gun Review, Concealed Carry Seminar, and special client-tailored subjects (upon request). Please see our section on Specialty Courses for more details on specialized training for law enforcement and military units.

In addition to classes at PFT's home ranges, courses are conducted in various areas of the country and may be scheduled in a client’s home area or local shooting facility. Weekend scheduling is available for most courses.

Tuition for most courses is $150.00 per training day (a training day is defined as 8-10 hours of training) Some specialized courses are priced differently, as noted on the course description listings. Law enforcement, military, and organization (club or group) discounts are available. A course coordinator program is offered for those interested in organizing a class (call for details). Class size is limited based upon the course requested. This allows the maximum degree of personal attention and personalized instruction. Most courses are limited to 10-12 persons; more complex courses are generally limited to 8 people but larger sized groups can be accommodated with prior coordination. Personal / Private training is also available at hourly (or daily) rates.  Note: individuals under the age of 18 can take courses provided they are accompanied by one of their parents or legal guardian. The parent or guardian may shoot the course or observe it, but must be present for the entire program and sign a release form for the minor.

Note: Firearms are available for rent for a nominal fee, by prior arrangement. Generally the cost for handguns (a Glock, with magazines/mag pouches and holster) is $35/day. Long guns are slightly more. Please call or e-mail in advance to discuss your needs.
